Mid Summer Update

Hi,

Just realized it's been a while since I've posted any "news." Musically I've been very busy with my band, "13th Hour." Along with partners Mark Swanson and Jay Round, we've been making the rounds of several West Michigan venues. We've made a lot of new friends and fans, and are hopeful this trend continues. Our calendar is pretty full right into September, so check out the gigs page, and if you're in the neighborhood, drop by and say hi.

My song, "Hey Brother" from the new CD "Brand New Clothes" was nominated by local station WYCE as 2010 local song of the year, along with several songs from other local artists. We'll see how that all shakes out at the Jammie awards in early 2011. I also recently went back into Mackinaw Harvest studio for a one-song project that I'll be telling you about in the next few months. Until next time...

First YouTube Video

Alright...first stab at YouTube using the new digital recorder. This is a song called "The Well" off of my CD "Brand New Clothes," and was recorded at the CD release party held on May 20, 2010 at One Trick Pony in Grand Rapids, MI. You can see me, Jay Round on Bass and Mark Swanson on electric guitar. You can't see Brian Morrill playing drums or Michael Crittenden on keys, but they're there too. Enjoy.

Local Resonance

Just a quick note to let you know that on Friday, 05/14/10 I'll be appearing on WYCE's Local Resonance program. The show runs from 11am until noon. We'll be talking about me, my music, the new CD and the release party being held at One Trick Pony on 05/20/10. Mark Swanson will be joining me in the studio and we'll be playing a few tunes live as well. If you're in Grand Rapids you can tune in at 88.1. CD Release Show Plans Underway

Sunday morning I head off to Dallas, TX for a week of "day job" related activity, which if you didn't know involves me mingling with lots of other security folk talking about "shoplifting," "shrink," and other such matters. I'm guessing many of the "folk" are also musicians, but I rarely mix my two professions so it's hard telling. Maybe I'll bring it up this time. The world is getting smaller you know.

On the home front we've begun preparing for the CD Release show being held at One Trick Pony in Grand Rapids, MI on May 20th. Show starts at 8pm and includes not only my 13th Hour pals Mark and Jay, but also two-thrids of the Troll For Trout Trio, Michael Crittenden and Brian Morrill. The practicing has started, posters are being created and plans are being made. I hope you can find the time to come out and take a listen. If you can't make it you can hear snippets of the CD at the link below, and if you like what you hear you can even buy a copy...such a deal.

In the meantime you can also watch a short clip of me and my bandmates at last year's Grand Rapids Festival celebration. American Federation of Musicians Local 56 posted this Youtube video recently. Just click the HERE to see 13th Hour...we're the first band featured:

Brand New Grandson

Just returned from a wonderful week in San Francisco (okay...Oakland actually) visiting my daughter, son-in-law and 5 week old grandson, Christian. He was a joy, and is naturally the best baby I've ever been around :-). Rented a Nissan hybrid for the week and enjoyed it quite a lot. Now looking forward to a couple of upcoming gigs at The Riverbend in Grand Rapids on April 3rd and 10th. CD release party for "Brand New Clothes" is scheduled for May 20th at One Trick Pony in Grand Rapids. More information to come as the date approaches.

"Brand New Clothes" Now Available!

After seven months, the new record is now available and getting some fine reviews! If you're in the Grand Rapids, MI area you can pick up a copy at any Schuler Books location. If digital is more your thing try the Apple iTunes store, Digstation.com or click the CD Baby link below. Many other digital distributors will have it up very soon. I hope you enjoy it. New CD (Brand New Clothes) is mastered and I have the final copy in hand. I couldn't be happier with the results. Very excited to get this out into the world. Artwork is well underway and plans are to send this out for duplication in the next 4-6 weeks. It will be available at all your favorite on-line music retailers, including CD Baby and iTunes. Samples will be up on the website soon.

Produced by Michael Crittenden, we've been tracking at Mackinaw Harvest studio since September. Mixing and mastering are now underway in anticipation of a spring 2010 release. I'll be posting additional information and previews in the near future.
